Talks on Palestinian Statehood.

With the debate coming to the United Nations next week President Obama has vowed to veto any General Assembly vote in the security council.

Hoping to head off a clash at the UN, Obama is trying to persuade the Palestanisns to drop the measure.

It is always striking that our persuasion in recent decades, seems to come in the form of money or weapons. Diplomacy appears to be a word of the past. Weapons are big business as with the weapons we provide (sell) to Turkey, who now have the capability to launch rockets into Israel. one of many examples our our weapons being used to create more hostilities around the world. Let us not forget the companies who directly benefit and make millions from the sale of these weapons.

Our other form of diplomacy is direct money to line the pickets of tribal leaders, profiteers and American companies.

It would seem more valuable to use our influence and "diplomacy" toward creating a lasting peace in the Middle East. It has been over twenty years in the making without any progress. Perhaps a Palestinian State would be that first real step. Nothing else has worked.

The wealthiest Americans control over 99% of the wealth in the United States yet are less than one percent of the voting population.

If concerned Americans really wanted to see change and job opportunities they would realize that the wealthiest Americans can well afford the very minor sacrifice of parting with some of their money to help pay for the creation of jobs. It is in the countries best interests.

If the President relayed that message and the American voter made it clear to their representatives in Congress that the bill needs to pass or they could be voted out of office by the 99% of the less fortunate, it would get their attention.

Whatever your political persuasion it has become necessary to put workers back to work, food on the table and a roof over their heads at the least.

Let's error, if it is an error, on the side of doing what is necessary to get us back on track and then fight over political ideology.

A One-Term Presidency Is Not The Worst Thing. It Depends In What You Accomplish

"I'd rather be a really good one-term president, then a mediocre two term president." this told to Disne Sawyer News by Ptesinent Obama. He may become a one term president. With waning approval ratings and a stagnant economy, the possibility of his reelection is now in serious doubt.

One term presidents usually leave office with their party divided, an economic crisis, unresolved wars and poor ratings with the public.

There have been some who have achieved lasting accomplishments resulting from one term presidencies

Sone have pushed through Hugh legislative agendas through conger that remake public policy and gave masted for decades.

Two one term presidents come to mind.

James Polk promised free trade and and reestablished an independent treasury. When he left office he neatly doubled the size of the country.

Lyndon Johnson pushed through a policy of civil and voting rights. He may have given the southern vote to the republican part, but it was the right decision. Other important policies were Nedixare and Medicaid and Federal aid assistance, anti - poverty legislation and more.

George Bush with passage if the Anericabs with Disability Act of 1990.

Others made contributions as well. Yes, Jimmy Carter, Herbert Hoover, John Adans and William Taft.

If President Obama is to be a one term president, we can only hope He lives up to the contributions of these past one- term presidents and gives us something important for history to remember.

There is Another Way. But No One Wants it.

Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, a member of the labor party in the Israeli parliament, said; "the world is tied of this conflict and angry because we are viewed as conquers ruling over another people. If I were Netanyahu I would recognize a Palestinian State. We would then negotiate borders and security. Instead nothing is happening. We are left with one ally, America, and that relationship is strained, too. "

Wise words falling on deaf ears in Israel and in the Jewish community in the US. Before it's too late and Jews have no place to travel for Bar Mitzvah's and celebrations and a religious vacation destination, we should think about "no-Israel". Being citizens of Israel we have a responsibility to future generations. The old guard needs to be told and made to understand they need to give their ally and their neighbors omething to work with so a true and just pease can be realized before it is too late.

I am always amazed by my reaction to a presidential debate and the press analysis afterwards. It is as if we were watching two different debates.

Last nights republican debate was a prime example. After it was over I thought that Mitt Romney ended the presidential bid of Rick Perry who did all he could to help put a bullet in his foot. Michelle Bachman need no longer worry about her aspirations as her run is over. Others surprisingly spoke well even if their messages will not be heard or carried by any news organizations. Ron Paul basically wanted to do away with the federal government completely.

The thing about the debate is that I was watching people being asked a question and giving an answer that had no relevance to the question or they answered with numbers that a large accounting firm would need to verify as accurate.

In the end it was like trying to put a round peg into a square hole or worse trying to convince the public that the round peg was actually square to begin with.

This is not just with the republicans but with our political mumble jumble on all fronts. At least, Rick Perry, shoots from the hip and answers directly only to realize that his answers will not fly.

I think we have been duped by the press and the politicians into believing any answers and interpretations as factual and on point. That is made easier by the fact that they believe we are truly stupid.

Based on the results they are right.

"IF" is a big word. If israel and the palestinians could agree to peace. If israel would be guaranteed security by an international peace keeping force. If Israel would agree that Jerusalem become an international city. If no more children were killed in suicide bombings. If Israeli technology could enhance the quality of life for them and their neighbors. It's a big "IF" but if it could happen, is it worth the cost of another life?

Is security to have quality of life worth the compromises? Is it too much to ask from all parties to the conflict? Could Hamas and other radical groups, no longer employed to kill, find other means of employment?

"If my grandmother had balls, she would be my grandfather". "IF" is a big word indeed.

Not a National Monument

A New York congressman plans to introduce legislation that would make a national monument out of the so-called World Trade Center cross. The cross consists of two intersecting steel beams that were found intact in the rubble at Ground Zero after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. The cross was moved over the summer to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, but a group called American Atheists sued to block its display. The atheist group claimed the makeshift cross had become a "Christian icon," which was being included in a museum without equal representation of other religions. Whether or not the so-called cross is a Christian symbol or not, does this congressman have anything better to do with his time? If our congressman spent as much time on the needs of the people and not in the "let me not be left out of the media hype" fanfare, he would be better off and so would his constituents Let's let religion be a personal thing and keep the cross out of it. It has no place as a national monument. Of course someone politically connected will get the rights to mass manufacture the so-called WTC cross in miniature and make a commercial killing. That's what we do best.

Speaker of the house, John Boehner, rejected a presidential request to address a joint session of congress on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. It is the same night of a scheduled republican presidential debate.

A scheduled date is now being debated on when the president will be allowed to address the nation about his proposal to increase jobs and fix the economy.

It seems that any hopes that a kinder, gentler bipartisan congress, once they return after labor day, is not in the cards.

Strange I did not realize the US debt issue had gone away or that European countries on the verge of bankruptcy were now flush with money or the unemployment roles had significantly disappeared or we were all selling our Homes as mortgages were bring approved by "customer- friendly" banks.

Children in the US who are in "food insecure homes" meaning children who are not getting the appropriate nourishment necessary for proper health mentally and physically now total over 17 million children.

Some in congress would cut nutrition programs so we don't leave our children saddled with debt. I truly believe that is their "speak" to foster developmental inequality which is impossible to reverse. What we need are healthy, well educated and well adjusted children.

This is exactly the opposite of what we are achieving.

Pete Seeger One of my fondest moments and one of my proudest, was introducing Pete Seeger in concert in 1967 when I was a junior in College. I have forgotten how important he and the folk movement was back then and what it accomplished. Folk music ended the Vietnam War and it helped bring about a greater awareness of the injustices of racial discrimination still going strong 100 years after the Civil War ended.

I grew up with folk music. Of all the great artists who brought Folk music to the forefront of our conscience no one was more important than Pete Seeger. The great folk artist and activist who the US government called un-American and who had him banned from TV and radio and whose career they tried to ruin. The same Government that would finally, years later, honor him as a great American. As the song suggests, A time to hate and a time to love.

As I think back to what the folk music era accomplished, I am saddened by the absence of that spirit today. Perhaps the medium has changed from music to texting and Twitter, Facebook and the Social Media. Somehow, it doesn't feel the same. Regardless I miss the Pete Seeger's of my generation, Pete, Joan, Peter, Paul, Mary, Judy and so many others and what they stood for and what they accomplished.

For the 1967 concert in which I was selected to introduce Pete Seeger, I had taken part of my Introduction from someone I unfortunately do not remember, but I will never forget the words: "Like Whitman and Wolfe, Pete belongs to the age, and the age would be slighted by the absence of an artist who has truly reached an autonomy and has grown steadily as a spokesman in song for our troubled, anxious, somewhat insecure century". Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr Pete Seeger.

Forty-four years later those words are as true as ever. God bless, Pete Seeger.

While campaigning in New Hampshire on Thursday afternoon, presidential candidate Rick Perry called evolution "a theory" with "some gaps in it," USA Today reports. The remark was prompted when a young boy asked the Texas governor about the age of the earth and evolution.

"I hear your mom was asking about evolution," Perry said. "That's a theory that is out there—and it's got some gaps in it.

The boy's mother, who was standing nearby, can be heard telling her son, "Ask him why he doesn't believe in science."

Stocks tumbled amid growing fears of a global recession, as investors confronted a grim mix of U.S. economic data and fresh concerns about Europe's banks.

Is this not the same news from last week and the week before and the week before that? We deal with the same fears the same news and the same economic information week in and week out. Nothing changes but the movement in the market.

Why the wild swings? Have we not had enough flights to safety? Are fears still growing of a global recession. Did these fears leave us last week? If any the news was different, I'd understand.

The market speaking heads would tell me I do not understand. What I do know is the markets are the same as spinning the wheel of fortune in Las Vegas. The only difference is in the odds. The odds are better in Vegas and the game is more honest.

Israel Retaliates Following Attacks Near Sinai

Israel carried out airstrikes in the southern Gaza Strip late Thursday after blaming Gaza militants for a series of deadly attacks in southern Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a televised address, warned that anyone who attacks Israel will pay a "very heavy price."

The Israeli airstrikes are reported to have killed six people, including a leader of the Popular Resistance Committee, an armed Palestinian faction.

Earlier Thursday, gunmen in southern Israel killed at least seven people and wounded about 40 during a series of apparently coordinated attacks.

Israeli officials say the attacks took place in quick succession near the border with Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, north of the Israeli town of Eilat.

They say gunmen fired on a passenger bus and a private vehicle, targeted a military patrol and detonated explosives near security forces. Israeli media reports say Israeli troops tracked and killed seven suspected attackers.

Defense Secretary Ehud Barak called the attacks a grave terrorist incident. Barak and other Israeli officials asserted that the attackers came from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip and entered Israel from the Sinai. Hamas has denied involvement.

The United States and the United Nations issued separate statements condemning the attacks in Israel. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also urged restraint.

Israel has expressed concern about a deterioration of security in the Sinai since Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak resigned in February.

Last week, Egypt moved additional forces to the region in an effort to improve security.

In light of the recent attack on an Israeli bus, it become clearer that a settlement of the on-going conflict be a top priority of the United States. A previous commentary is posted below

Social protests have broken out all over the Middle East and the UK. Thousands of innocent people have died in Arab countries. Millions of dollars in damage have caused havoc to several English cities. Arab dictators have slaughtered their own people at will while the world watches and keeps to itself.

In Israel social protests began 5 weeks ago with a national outcry over the rising price of basics such as cottage cheese. They then snowballed into a full-blown national movement by way of a simple act by a then unknown young woman. The act? Striking a tent in Tel-Aviv’s Rothschild Boulevard in protest of high apartment rental costs. A single tent became the heart and soul of the movement whose main gripe is that the middle-class is bearing the brunt of an imbalanced budgetary spend. “The People Demand Social Justice” is the key chant. The protests are local, scattered all across Israel, drawing hundreds to hundreds of thousands. Big name musicians volunteer to headline these protests. Barricades and PA systems, all donated. People talk about the movement at every cafe, over every lunch, at every business meeting, at every family dinner.

There have been a few skirmishes with the law. Small stuff though… For example, small groups of protesters were arrested by the police for blocking roads and were released without charges within a day. Small potatoes aside, it’s been four weeks and zero acts of the barbaric, non-discriminatory violence we’ve seen across the middle east, and even in the UK. No shots fired. No stores looted. No form of communication has been shut down. In fact, not only have the Israeli police and army not taken any role other than safeguarding the protests themselves, they have even been applauded, literally, by hundreds of thousands for their efforts.

There are still some people who understand the value of life and use their voices and intelligence to work to solve problems. Most important is their respect and concern for their fellow human beings. In the animal kingdom it is good to know that survival is not based only on who is the most brutal and barbaric, but on reason and sanity. Too bad man did not get enough of those traits

The politicians may want to confine themselves to attacks and ignorant rhetoric.

Make me understand. Oil prices continue to rise on fears that the Middle East uprisings will begin to effect oil production. Another day, another threat to oil production. World economies once again go "Tilt" as oil companies raise prices. This is a theme, over and over again, that has had no disruptive effect to the production of oil worldwide. It's only effect is in the hugh profits gotten by the oil companies.

Another day, another Catholic priest found guilty of sexually abusing children. This time in Brazil. The Vaticans answer "retire to a life of prayer and penitence". How about a life behind bar instead?
The churches address book of abusive priests leaves no letter in the alphabet without the names of exposed priests. I guess it is comforting to know the latest abusive priest will be put out to pasture to "pray" rather than being assigned to another diocese with young children to abuse again. Is this what my Catholic friends define as the "one true faith"?Edit

Any cool new technology gets my blood going. As much as I would like to buy this, I cannot justify the cost or the reason why I would. Several years ago, Palm had this idea for their phone and a computer unit called the Folio. It was a great idea then but with new technologies and the iPad and Macbook air, I cannot see the reasons.
Today, I use my phone mostly as a phone and email. some searches and for notes. Obviously the camera is an added must have.
I would love to use the iPad for everything else and I'm almost there.

BTW. With a Jailbroken iPhone, I can have all my information and apps show up in full screen on any monitor, TV or computer.
Still, I love any new tech. And the phone does sound great.Edit

Several months ago I returned a Nissan Murano after a three year lease. We had had no issues with the car and due to our customer loyalty to Nissan (my older son also had a Murano and we had had both a Pathfinder and an Altima in the past) we decided to lease a new Sentra.

From the beginning the car was a problem. It did not easily turnover, sometimes taking several minutes for the ignition to catch. Then a little over a month after getting the car, it would not start at all. We called the dealership and they promptly picked up the car and fixed it. We picked the car up two days later and it worked for about two weeks and then it didn't work again. The car was dead in our driveway.

The dealer again towed it back to their service department. Two days later they called and my wife drove me over to pick up the car. The service manager gave me the keys, I walked out to the lot, put the key in the ignition and NOTHING. The car would not turn over.

I walked back to the service manager and handed him back the key. At that moment the service manager told me there seemed to be a “real problem” with the Nissan Sentra’s electrical system. But he would fix it. They lent me a car and I went home – without the Sentra.

Two days later, we again bring the car home and because it was over Christmas and we were away part of the time, the car sat in our driveway. On New Year’s Eve day, we go out to the car. You guessed it – IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER.

My wife decided to do a little research and this is what she found on the internet. These are Nissan North America’s own words about the Sentra:

SUMMARY

Nissan is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Sentra Vehicles . . . due to a machining irregularity, the bolt/washer surface on the positive battery terminal cable end may allow to a gap to occur in the contact area of the terminal. This can result in a voltage drop that may cause difficulty starting the vehicle and could cause damage to the engine control module.

CONSEQUENCES

This issue can cause the engine to stop running while the vehicle is in motion at low speed with a difficult or no start increasing the risk of a crash.

Since we now had had the car back to the dealer to be fixed three times and since in the four months that we have had the car, we have not been able to drive it, or are afraid to drive it, since you may get where you are going but may not get home, or you could end up in a crash, we decided this car is a lemon and under New York State Law, we wanted our money back.

We went about this in accordance with the law. The dealership gave us the phone number for Nissan Consumer affairs (it seems the dealership, Nissan North in Mt. Kisco, NY is not legally responsible since it is a leased car). We called Nissan NA, and were given a case number. We explained the problems and asked them to take the car back. They told us they would investigate and get back to us in ten days. On the tenth day they called my wife and told her they would do NOTHING for us. When she asked to whom could she appeal, the Nissan representative, Mike Covre told her “the Better Business Bureau”.

A subsequent discussion with the dealership revealed that they had inadvertently given Consumer Affairs, incorrect information. But the dealership’s attempts to contact Mike Covre have gone unanswered. If their own franchisees get no respect, think how little effort they make for us poor, lowly consumers.

We are now pursuing this under the New York State Attorney General’s Lemon Law Appeal process. But think about this:

Under this law, I must continue to pay the cost of the lease and the insurance for A CAR I CANNOT USE!!! And I must continue to do so until this dispute is resolved, if ever.

As I write this, the car is back at the dealership (towed away once again) and we are in limbo.

So we wait and pay. What else can we do? Eat cake I suppose.

So I need your help. Offer advice. Re-tweet this to your friends.

The white building originally housed Ambrose Burnside's Munitions factory prior to the Civil War.

Ambrose Burnside was a Major General in the American Civil War, three term governor of Rhode Island, US Senator and resident of Bristol, RI.

The building, renovated as part of a residential complex, sits along the waterfront in historic Bristol.

As a student of the Civil War, it was a great surprise for me to learn that I now share a small part of American History with General Burnside.

Table Member Wins Blind Golf Tournament

Willy White and his little friend Henry Rule,

(names have been changes to protect the guilty)

members of the infamous morning breakfast group, known simply as THE TABLE,

won the regional Blind Golf Association Low Score Golf Tournament at a local country club.

This is the second consecutive year that Mr. White has won the local event. Henry Rule, playing in his first blind tournament,

also won the long drive contest.

After hitting their drives on the last hole, Rule, sharing a golf cart with a genuine blind person,

drove to the longest ball on the fairway.

He picked up the ball and showing it to his blind opponent stated:

"You can clearly see that my initials HR are on this ball".

Event officials were dumbfounded that these gentlemen were not only allowed to enter this event

but were given the wining trophy's as well.
